B.Tech Marine Engineering is a specialized undergraduate engineering program designed for students who want to build careers in the maritime and shipping industry. The course focuses on the engineering systems responsible for the operation, propulsion, maintenance, and safety of ships and other marine vessels.
Students develop a strong foundation in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, marine engines, ship propulsion, marine electrical systems, refrigeration, hydraulics, and marine machinery. They learn how complex mechanical and electrical systems operate in challenging marine environments.
Practical training is a major component of Marine Engineering education. Students work with marine engine models, diesel engines, boilers, pumps, compressors, turbines, generators, electrical systems, automation equipment, and engine-room simulators.
The program also provides training in shipboard operations, marine safety, emergency procedures, pollution prevention, fire safety, and machinery maintenance. Depending on the program and applicable requirements, students may also undergo structured practical or sea training.
Modern marine engineering increasingly incorporates automation, digital monitoring, energy efficiency, environmental technologies, and advanced propulsion systems. Students can therefore gain exposure to ship automation, marine control systems, LNG and alternative-fuel technologies, energy management, and condition monitoring.
After completing B.Tech Marine Engineering and meeting the applicable maritime certification requirements, graduates can pursue careers as marine engineers and work aboard commercial ships, offshore vessels, cruise ships, ship-management organizations, shipyards, marine equipment companies, and other maritime-sector organizations.
