Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery (ANM) is an important nursing program for students who want to build a career in the healthcare and nursing sector. The program focuses on developing fundamental nursing skills along with practical knowledge of patient care, maternal healthcare, child health, community healthcare, nutrition, hygiene, and preventive healthcare. The ANM program combines theoretical education with practical and clinical training. Students receive hands-on exposure to basic nursing procedures, patient monitoring, first aid, healthcare communication, maternal care, newborn care, and community health activities. One of the important components of ANM is midwifery training. Students learn about antenatal care, postnatal care, maternal health, newborn care, and basic support during childbirth under appropriate professional supervision. The course also focuses strongly on community healthcare. Students learn about health education, sanitation, nutrition, immunization, disease prevention, maternal and child health programs, and basic healthcare services delivered at the community level. ANM students may receive practical exposure in hospitals, primary healthcare centres, community healthcare centres, maternity units, and other approved healthcare facilities. This practical experience helps students understand real-world healthcare environments and develop professional patient-care skills. According to the Indian Nursing Council, the ANM program has a duration of 2 years, including 18 months of training and 6 months of internship. Registration requirements are governed by the applicable State Nursing Registration Council and relevant nursing regulations. After completing the program and meeting the applicable registration requirements, ANM graduates can pursue opportunities in government and private healthcare facilities, community health services, maternity centres, nursing homes, NGOs, and other healthcare organizations.
